Entertainment For Your Wedding

Unless you are in the business of events planning, your wedding may well be the first time you’ve had to book live music. With the number of options available and people to keep happy, you might feel completely unprepared for the task. To take some of the head-scratching out of the process, here at M8 Entertainment we are giving out top tips on what to consider when booking professional live music for your wedding.

Work Out Your Tastes

A lot of couples make the mistake of thinking they need to work out exactly which songs they want to hear, but a good wedding band will do all this for you. The first thing you really want to establish is your taste in music and the sort of atmosphere you want to create. There are lots of songs that are guaranteed to get everyone dancing, but before you think about those – and we suggest you leave that to the band anyway – work out what sort of genre or style do you want. Do you want a loud, modern and energetic wedding band, or something a bit more traditional? If you have an artist or group you like, there are lots of tribute acts to go for, but beware of alienating your audience. It’s your day though, so if your favourite tribute will make you happier than a full dance floor, go for it! It might be that you have a specific era of music – maybe Motown, 60s, or the 70s, or Britpop 90s bands. Indie-rock might be your thing maybe think about your modern artists like Ed Sheeran. Or perhaps something very sophisticated and traditional, like a 7 piece swing band. There are lots of possibilities, but before you start looking and be clear on your tastes and the vibe you want. And don’t forget you may want something like a Harpist, Saxophonist or a Violinist for the Church whilst you are walking down the aisle or during your wedding breakfast.

Think About Your Audience

On your wedding day, you will be bringing three or four generations of two families together, and many of them will be meeting for the first time. You might be into heavy metal but unless your guests have similar musical tastes, an Iron Maiden tribute might not cut it for your grandparents. So, if you want to fill the dance floor, think about your audience and the sort of music that will appeal to most tastes to get people dancing. If you want a wedding band that can just read the room and goes with the right vibe, you need to choose experienced performers, who are comfortable with a broad repertoire of modern chart numbers as well as big hits from past decades.

Go for Performers, Not Just Great Musicians

You’ll need a band who are not just musically competent but with performers who can engage the crowd and get everyone dancing. A great wedding band will know that your special day is all about you, and they’ll be able to put on a show while keeping you at the heart of your wedding day. Look for promotional material that gives you a sense of their energy and how they interact with the crowd.

What Size Band Can You Accommodate?

Stage space is really important when deciding on a band. If you’ve only got a small stage, you might need to go for a three- or four-piece, or maybe even a soloist or acoustic duo for very intimate weddings. Find out from your venue how big the stage area will be and you can discuss options with the potential bands or your live music agent. Talk to your venue to find out what their performance space is like and whether or not your band can easily load to and unload from the stage. If the venue has a sound limiter, even if you have the stage space you might need to look at smaller band options to save the power cutting out mid-song. A lot of things to take into consideration isn’t there.

Get Googling

An obvious way to find a wedding band is to research online. Make sure you check out promotional material, repertoire and testimonials to get a good sense of potential acts. Lots of bands also promote themselves on Facebook and Instagram so look beyond their main promotional video and see if you can get a real sense of their personalities and performances from their posts. One thing to consider when searching online is that a standard search will return bands that have the most web expertise or can afford paid ads, not necessarily the ones that deliver a great show. You could potentially be missing out on lots of acts. This is where an agency can help you reach the best bands and best acts that aren’t necessarily all over the web. Speaking to M8 Entertainments who have the experience will help you with all aspects of entertainment.

Speaking to M8 Entertainments who are also registered with Hitched.Co.UK will put your mind at ease. You have enough to do!

If you don’t want to spend hours researching, enlist us as your agent. This is probably the easiest option, as a good agent we only have professional bands on our books, and we will be able to narrow options to suit your budget, tastes, and requirements, without you having to trawl through pages of promo material. Be as upfront as you can about what you’re after and give as much detail as possible and we will take a lot of the leg-work out for you. Booking with us as your agent  M8 Entertainments also gives you guarantees – not just that you’ll have a professional band with the quality gear and the right insurance, but you’ll have assistance on the day in case there are any surprises.

Once booked, you can look forward to a night of music, laughter and terrible dance moves with your loved ones. AND ENJOY

Jack Sparrow Lookalike

Simon is the only person to be credited as Johnny Depp’s photo double for the UK filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.  Not only is Simon lucky enough to pass for Johnny Depp in looks, but he is also the same size as the Hollywood star from his height down to his hand size.  So when you are watching the film you never know when you might be catching a glimpse of Simon himself.

Simon has spent many thousands of pounds and countless months of painstaking research to make sure that every aspect of his costumes are as close to the originals as possible – not only the right fabrics, designs, and details, but making those look suitably aged and broken down.  Ask yourself would you really want to hire someone who is wearing something you can just buy from a fancy dress shop?

Being such a unique character, you often see impersonators come up with a very over the top caricature-like Captain Jack.  Simon makes his characterisation as real to life as possible, as if Johnny Depp has walked off the film set.

How To Keep Kids Entertained At Your Wedding

The reality of a wedding is that they can be long and boring for kids. Deciding whether to invite children to your wedding or have an adults-only wedding can be an incredibly controversial decision.  You need to think seriously about whether kids at your wedding is right for you and the impact it will have your guests.  Things to take into consideration is your budget and venue capacity to your family’s expectations.  So after long and hard discussions, you are inviting kids to the wedding.

Whether it’s keeping children quiet during the ceremony or giving their parents a chance to let their hair down at the reception happy children, happy parents!

This is to help you with some ideas to keep your young guests entertained on your special day.

Always a good idea.  From Giant Jenga, Connect 4, Twister or a ring toss will keep everyone entertained even for the older guests to get involved whilst you are having your photos taken.  If your budget won’t stretch to buying games new, try charity shops, Ebay, Gum Tree, and local groups on Facebook, or even ask the parents of the children for unwanted games.

Some parents may have old console games that can be plugged in a side room in the hotel where the reception is.  Young guests will be enthralled and quiet whilst those all-important photos are taking place.  I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the men also disappear to try and compete!.

Simple things like a colouring book will keep the little ones entertained. What about a little goody bag with a small pad and crayons, Play-Doh and even bubbles to use outside, cheap and ideal to keep them amused.

If you do have a budget put aside for entertainment for children, what about a close-up magician to entertain not only children but the grown-ups as well, this is a great idea for when your photos are being taken.

A photo treasure hunt with disposable cameras,  you give a list of photos they need to collect, like a photo of the bride’s parents, grooms parents, the cake being cut, Best man dancing with the bride maid, the bride’s flowers, the Dj, the band.  It is also a nice reminder of the day and they feel that they have contributed to your special day.  Maybe add it to the invite about the Photo Treasure Hunt to the parents of the children to get the parents to mentioned it to the children before the ‘wedding, which will get them excited and have something to look forward to.

Child Photographer at Wedding

Children can get bored at the table at the Reception breakfast, they are usually ignored by the adults at this time because it’s the adults time to chat and eat.  So how about making favours for the children, and just putting in small toys (ensure you know the children’s ages) soft toys, lego or even a joke book.

What about having a craft table, put a white paper tablecloth over a table and let them scribble with crayons for as long as their heart desires,  No paints though we don’t want a handprint on your beautiful wedding dress do we?.

Check with your venue and see if they have a spare room to leave a DVD Player ask parents if they have old DVDs that children will enjoy.

Colouring Pencils for Kids EntertainmentIt’s important to keep these little guests happy.  If you do have a good budget there are Nanny services and  Bouncy castles is a great addition to an outdoor wedding.  Please check the venue is ok and covered with insurance and be warned drunken adults can cause injuries to themselves!  You can hire toy boxes or even ask parents to give you games beforehand that their children don’t play with anymore and make your own box,  wrapping an old cardboard box with bright and colourful  paper providing children with books, toys to activity sheets  is exciting for your young guests, you could also make the box themed.

So it’s early evening, time for the guests arriving for the evening reception and the children are now bored.  Organise with the DJ to have kids disco playing all those popular children’s songs, such as Baby Shark, Frozen etc

Even songs like:

  • “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. We have to agree with you, Pharrell—happiness is certainly the truth. …
  • “Can’t Stop the Feeling” by Justin Timberlake. …
  • “MMMBop” by Hanson. …
  • “Macarena” by Los Del Rio. …
  • “Thriller” by Michael Jackson. …
  • “ABC” by the Jackson Five. …
  • “Twist and Shout” by The Beatles. …
  • Dancing Queen” by Abba.

Save yourself stress on your wedding day be prepared and ask for help, don’t forget the children’s parents will be there, ask them for ideas to amuse their young ones.  This day is your day!.
