Andrew Hubbard is a highly musical and entertaining West-End accredited musician, Violin/Fiddle, Piano and Keyboards. He started to learn the violin and piano in prep school, after being inspired by my cousin Mario’s brilliant piano playing when he used to come over to my house to practice on my piano. I was six years old and he was 10.
Over the years until he finished school, Andrew Hubbard worked his way up through the four Bedfordshire County Youth Orchestra’s, county youth choir and Bedfordshire youth Opera group. With them, they gave many sell-out concerts, both in the UK and around Europe, in countries such as Cyprus, Germany, Italy, and Scotland. Andrew Hubbard was fortunate enough to hear many of the world’s leading solo violinists, as they would come and practice their new concerto with their youth orchestra.
I’d like to tell you a bit about myself; both in my personal and my musical life.
I started to learn the violin and piano in prep school, after being inspired by my cousin Mario’s brilliant piano playing when he used to come over to my house to practice on my piano. I was six years old and he was 10. Over the years until I finished school, I worked my way up through the four Bedfordshire County Youth Orchestra’s, county youth choir and Bedfordshire youth Opera group. I was fortunate enough to hear many of the world’s leading solo violinists, as they would come and practice their new concerto with our youth orchestra.
When I was 16 I met the amazing pianist Anna Maria Stanczyk, with whom, along with my piano teacher, I was lucky enough to be awarded master classes courtesy of the Archway Trust. I loved these experiences, but there was still something missing that was keeping me from being truly passionate about playing the violin. Whilst I felt that the standard of Michael Rose OBE, the county music advisor, his youth orchestras and their tutors were amazingly high – both in terms of technical perfection and artistry – I knew there was still something missing in my musical life.
I was delighted to win a place at the Royal Academy of Music, where I met many beautiful musicians. But I hadn’t yet truly found the one reason above all, that would make my efforts feel like something other than just a mere surface achievement. That reason being, that I can help bring joy and happiness to others, through my music.
A few years ago I was working full-time as a theatre musician and largely thanks to an opera singer friend, I was encouraged to tour the country as an independent recording artists and performer. This was when I finally recognised my “raison d’êtres” – to help bring joy and happiness to others through my music.
I am so grateful that this has provided me with a means to share my music in a close and personal way with many people, and I have never been happier. It is a true gift and blessing for me to be able to share my music with others and to receive such wonderful responses, from those of you who have been kind enough to share your personal stories with me, regarding how the music I share has had an impact on your life, or reminded you of past and profound experiences. I only hope that those of you, who are truly passionate about something, are able to experience this kind of happiness through doing what you love.
